There are many key tags that you will have to learn when formatting an article. Here is a breakdown on them. YTMND wiki is powered by MediaWiki, and therefore can be edited the same way as many other sites, like Wikipedia.
Text Formatting
- Two apostrophes makes text italicized.
- Three apostrophes makes text bolded.
- A colon (":") will make an indent in the text.
- To type text as it is without formatting, use the
<nowiki>
tag.- For example; To make "[[You're]] ''the'' '''man''' {{now}} [dog !]", you'd first type <nowiki>, what you'll write, and end it with </nowiki>.
- To make comments only visible when editing, you'd type <!-- Comment -->. Press "edit" for a proof.
Link Formatting
- To make a link to a page on the wiki, surround the page's name with double square brackets.
- For example. to make a link to Fads, you'd write [[Fads]].
- If you want to link a page on the wiki using different text, separate the article name and the text by a pipe ("|").
- For example; To make a link to Fads, you'd write [[Fads|link to Fads]].
- To make a link to a site outside of the wiki, you can either type it's url and it will automatically make the link (remember to include the http:// part)
- For Example: http://www.ytmnd.com/
- To make a link to a site outside the wiki appear as a number in brackets, surround the URL in brackets. Note that links to some major wiki sites have special formatting to link to their articles, those can be found at Help:Interwiki links.
- [http://www.ytmnd.com] makes [1]
- To make a link to a site outside the wiki using different text, separate the URL and the text with a space.
- [http://www.ytmnd.com YTMND] makes YTMND
List Formatting
- The number sign (shift + 3) will make a numbered list. Use the number sign (a.k.a. hash) each time you want a different number to come up.
- When in a numbered list, a hash and a colon will make an indent.
- Such as this.
- An asterik (shift + 8) will make a bullet.
- Such as this.
Article Formatting
- Two equals signs makes a main topic.
- See Formatting An Article.
- Three equals signs makes a sub-topic.
- See Text Formatting.
- Four equals signs makes a sub-sub-topic.
