Original YTMND: moon man sings best song ever |
Worthy spinoffs: |
The Moon Man fad was created on May 31st, 2007 by YTMND user farkle. The original Moon Man site featured an animated GIF of former McDonald's mascot Mac Tonight, playing the piano along to the popular fad song "Macarron Chacarron" by El Chombo. While the fad originally started out with Moon Man jamming out to YTMND fad music on his piano, the majority of Moon Man sites feature him talking using AT&T Labs Text To Speech (the official Moon Man voice is AT&T Mike) and often features a long chanting of "KKK!"
As a YTMND fad "character" (such as Batman or Picard), Moon Man was originally a harmless musical talent. However, as his creator Farkle and others successfully developed him, he was further associated with racism and violence. Some assume this is because his head is shaped somewhat like a Klu Klux Klan hood. Currently, Moon Man is depicted as a profane, racist, sexist, homophobic criminal, given to elaborate acts of sexual violence and/or hate crimes. Much of the humor in Moon Man sites is derived from hearing offensive, violent subject matter spoken in Moon Man's deadpan, nonchalant tone of voice.
During months of late October and November 2008, the official "Moon Crew" was formed. The members of this organization are dedicated to their goal of filling YTMND with Moon Man sites, as well as "chatting racist shit" and chanting "KKK" all day. Currently, the Moon Crew includes farkkkle, FowderSoapReturns, Hypersaxon, Incredibled, Mr-Ross, JamesChicks, JamesMedicine, iJonJon, Clownch, Excrement, skoobysnaks, ThatDude, fofofum, shackleford1, and YourOldPalMoonMan.
On August 21st of 2009, AT&T became aware of the ever increasingly powerful force known as "Moon Man." Thus when the word "moon man" is typed into the TTS demo's box, it results in an automatic error message. Thankfully an intrepid young Moon Crew task force lead by FowderSoap quickly thwarted the evil plan, and discovered a way to bypass the error. FowderSoap then created a new site in order to warn and instruct all those who would seek to aid the Moon Crew's cause. Moon Man Emergency Broadcast There is also an alternative and uncensored demo hosted by Wizzard.
The Moon Man fad is considered to be a NARVish fad due to the fact that the image never changes, only the wording changes, usually with little wording. At one point, max himself threatened to ban anyone who constantly posted moon man sites without making them "nsfw".
